Just thirteen years after the City of Cortland was incorporated, Cortland Country Club was founded on September 1, 1913. Judge Nathan L. Miller (former governor of New York State) and Theodore H. Wickwire, inspired by their experiences playing golf in the South, called a group of men together to organize a club for Cortland and the vicinity. The Club’s purpose was “to be a means of building the physical body and to promote the social life and activities of Cortland County”.
